About Me

I am a life-long autodidact who enjoys test-tasting all the wonderful slices of life. From getting messy with charcoals, to playing soccer, to kicking back and devouring Antonio Lopez’s Mediacology, my intellectual life, to date, has been a constant rearrangement of puzzle pieces found through passionate and uncensored exploration. I am currently exploring at Oberlin College, pursuing a major in Anthropology, and I also study Spanish and Visual Arts. I've studied abroad in Cordoba, Spain, and last semester I was enrolled at Benemérita Universidad Autónoma de Puebla, in Mexico, where I specifically took education and globalization classes.  Over the summer I received a TESOL certification after an intensive month-long program in Guadalajara, and then dedicated my remaining summer time by volunteering at El Bosque, an awesome permaculture practicing ecovillage in Erongarícuaro, Michoacan.

My array of blessed experiences has taught me a lot about who I am and what I care about. While technically I am a student, I know that at heart I am a teacher. I look forward to to pursuing a Masters in education with a focus in ESL instruction and curriculum development. I volunteered teaching English in Cordoba, Spain, and also worked with a Chinese family in Oberlin when I completed the Shansi Intensive TESOL Teacher-Training Program. In Puebla I taught fourth, fifth, and sixth graders at Basilio Rivera, a private catholic K-6th grade.  I was a TA for the linguistic pedagogy class last year and very much enjoyed helping first time ESL teachers make the most out of their lesson plans. This semester I am again TAing for EDUA 101. My first and second grade classes at Eastwood Elementary School never failed to put a smile on my face during Spanish class. This semester I look forward to teaching fourth and being the grade level coordinator, not only helping other teachers make successful learning opportunities in their classrooms but also improving on the fourth grade SITES curriculum so to better integrate it with the IB program. The EPPC at Oberlin (Educational Plans and Policy Committee) has taught me the intricacies of revising a course credit system (the goal of which is to uphold Oberlin’s liberal arts philosophy) and I have now concreted my own opinion of higher education at Oberlin:  We need to remember that beyond nurturing "well-rounded" individuals (9-9-9), we wish to foster deeply knowledgeable and ethical thinkers prepared to address the concerns of a globalizing world. I most of all love teaching my dad about the joys of composting and very much miss spending my Saturdays out on George Jones Farm turning the heaps and playing compost-softball with other lovely cooperative friends… Those were the days!

What am I interested in? YOU name it, I’m listening. Whatever I apply myself to, I bring my infectious love for nature and people, my willingness to be experimental and my ridiculously positive attitude. I bring my problem solving and interpersonal skills and on top of that, my independent attitude and determination.
